On a regular basis, our navigation goes from Cabo San Lucas in line to the 193 degrees, and we normally head to San Benedicto Island first which is the closest island to shore. After that, and taking into consideration the weather and the presence of other vessels, we navigate to Socorro Island and Roca Partida. The 11-day trip itinerary is similar to the 9-day itinerary. Our boat will spend more time at the dive spots, but we usually do not have a set itinerary, since the captain chooses the additional dive sites to give the divers the best experience. Weather Conditions and other Liveaboards are the main factor in his consideration. Absolutely you can join. However not all dive spots are ideal to snorkel. Whenever the weather and on-site conditions allow it, we will take you snorkeling. Mexican law forbids people to jump in the water with certain types of cetaceans, which includes most whales. The Solmar V abides by the Mexican Government requirements and does everything in our power not to disturb the wildlife. Sometimes during whale season, as we have guests in the water with dolphins, a whale nearby can get curious and come to say hello. We are dealing with wildlife and cannot guarantee an encounter like this, but it does happen every so often. If you are interested in whales, we highly recommend adding a Cabo day tour extension to your trip. Diving in Socorro is known to be one of the top three big animal destinations of the world besides Galapagos and Cocos Islands. Our guests will have magical encounters with pelagic wildlife and additional hard and soft coral can be found. Roca Partida in the southwest area, has one of the few vertical coral reefs in the Eastern Pacific.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/details>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

Socorro\u2019s resident marine life are giant mantas, bottlenose dolphins, clarion angelfish, 10+ shark species like hammerhead sharks, whitetip sharks, silky sharks, Galapagos sharks and many more. November-December and May-June are the prime months for whale shark encounters and from December to April our guests can encounter humpback whales. Additionally, we see some occasional guests like false killer whales, yellowfin tuna or tiger sharks.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/details>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

The crossing to and from Socorro (The Revillagigedos Islands) from Cabo San Lucas takes about 22-24 hours, depending on weather conditions. Although most of the crossings are in fairly calm seas, we are crossing in open ocean conditions so precaution against motion sickness is advised. We have sometimes experienced rough seas heading uphill from Socorro to Cabo.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/details>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

The conditions will be steady and are good throughout the entire season \u2013 unless, in very rare circumstances, there is a storm\/hurricane that passes by. The crossing can be bumpy, but once we are there we anchor in calm bays. Socorro Islands Dive Trips are recommended and required for divers with a minimum of 50 logged dives (National Park Regulations). We require our guests to be Advanced Open Water certified or Open Water certified with the Deep Specialty. We offer PADI Deep Adventure Dives for divers not meeting the certification requirements yet. Our divers need to make the following.
\u2013 Our guests must be able to do a back roll off the panga and into the water.
\u2013 Our guests must be able to do their safety stop without the assistance of an anchor line.
\u2013 Our guests must feel comfortable with some currents and blue diving without seeing the bottom of the ocean
\u2013 Our Guests must be comfortable with experiencing big animal encounters because the wildlife can be very friendly. Divers have also experienced bottlenose dolphins swimming close and hovering vertically (they enjoy close interaction with humans). When close encounters with wildlife happen, the diver must maintain the presence of mind to continue monitoring their diving profile. The SOLMAR V has a state-of-the-art titanium Nitrox membrane system installed. Unlimited Nitrox is included in our trip costs and mandatory from November 2023 onwards. The health of our guests and crew is very important to us. Therefore, we keep our first aid and medical kits in perfect condition. Between our trips this is checked and restocked if necessary. Additionally, we have an AED Unit on board. Safety of our guests and crew is our main concern. On every trip we have our captain and his first mate being in charge of the navigation 24\/7. Our safety\u00a0 systems are set up with an alarm system that must be manually turned off in a set rhythm to ensure the boat is always under close supervision.<\/p>

The whole boat is equipped with fire extinguishers and fire alarms. The Solmar V has two firefighting stations which can be operated by 2 crew members each. Our engine room is equipped with a CO2 extinguisher in case of a fire.<\/p>

The Solmar V has two Lifeboats for 25 PAX each to ensure a safe rescue in the unlikely event of an emergency evacuation.<\/p>

On every trip our crew members will conduct a safety drill in which different scenarios are being created. The Solmar V communicates 24\/7 with the shore team, this can be via email, messenger apps and 2 sat phone systems. Although we discourage conducting business while out on your Solmar V expedition, we realize that sometimes it is necessary to communicate with your office or home. Guests are welcome to use our phone system and will be assisted by our captain. Your call will be charged at Satellite minute rates ranging from $4 \u2013 $5 U.S. dollars per minute. The main difference is location and size of the cabin. Both categories have the same amenities including private head\/shower, air conditioning and carpeting. The standard rooms are located in the bow of the boat and the superior rooms are in the middle. The mid-section of all boats has less sensation of movement. Once our guests arrive on the boat, they will be assigned their room and dive station. They will then remove their dive gear from their dive bags and put them in their assigned dive station. They will also unpack their dry clothes and toiletries in their rooms. Both their dive bag and luggage will be stored in our dry storage area throughout the remainder of the trip.<\/p>

The boat will arrive at the first dive site around 4:00 PM on the next day, and our guests will have the opportunity to do the check-in dive on \u00a0the first day at the Socorro Islands. Every day after that we schedule 4 dives per day. But as weather or other unforeseen events can happen the total dive count cannot precisely be given prior to the trip.<\/p>

After the last full day of diving at the Socorro Islands and after the last dive of the day we start our return to harbor. The boat returns to harbor the night before disembarkation and our guests will spend their last night on the boat in harbor. The international airport for our home port in Cabo San Lucas. Our Socorro Islands trip departs from San Jose del Cabo, Mexico (airport code SJD). It is about a 45 to 60 minute drive from the Marina in Cabo San Lucas.<\/p>

Most major U.S. airlines fly directly into this airport. In general, the airlines to check out are Alaska, American, Aero Mexico, Delta, Continental, United and Southwest Airlines. There are other airlines and many direct flights from gateway cities such as Los Angeles, San Diego, Houston, Dallas, Phoenix, Atlanta, Denver, Chicago and New York so you can start from anywhere and get to us quite easily through these gateway cities. As of January 2016, all U.S. citizens require a valid passport for travel in and out of Mexico. You will be asked to fill out a tourist card upon entering the country and present this to the immigration officials in Mexico. In 2023 some major airports switched to an online immigration registration, where you will only receive a stamp in your passport. Passport holders from most countries in the European Union will receive a visa upon arrival free of charge. For other nationalities, you should ask your airline or call the Mexican Consulate in your country. All passports need to be valid for at least another 6 months before entering Mexico.
